Introduction:

The Greek Festival of Sydney and the Department of Modern Greek Studies at Sydney University are thrilled to announce the 1st Greek Australian Youth Filmmaking Competition! This exciting initiative invites young filmmakers aged 18-30 from across Australia to explore and celebrate the rich tapestry of the Greek Australian experience through the art of film.

Theme: Greek Australian Panorama

This competition challenges you to capture the essence of the "Greek Australian Panorama." We encourage you to delve into the diverse stories, perspectives, and experiences that shape this unique cultural identity. Your film can explore any facet of Greek Australian life, such as:

  • Cultural identity and heritage
  • Family traditions and community connections
  • Historical events and migration stories
  • Contemporary issues and challenges
  • Personal journeys and reflections
  • The intersection of Greek and Australian cultures

We seek films that are creative, bold, and insightful, offering fresh perspectives on what it means to be Greek Australian in today's world.

Competition Details:

  • Eligibility: The competition is open to Greek, Greek Australian, and Greek-at-heart youth aged 18-30 years old, residing in Australia.
  • Film Requirements:
    • Films can be of any style or form: Short Film, Documentary, Music Video or Film Essay.
    • Maximum running time: 10 minutes.
    • Language of film can be either English or Greek. In case of Greek language usage of English subtitles is required.
  • Submission Deadline: All films must be submitted by 31st August 2025.
  • Screening: All films selected for the competition will be screened during the prestigious 30th Greek Film Festival of Sydney (October 2025).
  • Winner: An overall Best Short Film winner will be announced. All submissions will receive feedback by our independent judging panel.
  • Winner Announcement: The winner will be announced at a special event during the 30th Greek Film Festival, celebrating the incredible talent and contributions of our young filmmakers.
  • Prize: The winner will receive a monetary award of $2000.
