PRESENTED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS GENERAL SECRETARIAT FOR GREEKS ABROAD

DIRECT FROM GREECE | The Lady of Ro is inspired by the life of Despina Achladioti, known as the Lady of Ro, after the deserted Greek island near the Turkish coast, where she lived for decades, first with her husband and then as a widow. The Lady of Ro provided valuable service in World War II and asserted Greek rights to the island by raising the Greek flag every morning. Fotini Baxevani’s striking performance evokes a specific time and place yet movingly describes the universal human condition. A timeless story of women trying to find meaning in a world with little regard for, and even less knowledge of, what they’ve confronted.
