Lecture by Costas Yiannakodimos
Adamantios Korais (1748-1833), was one of the greatest literary figures of the Greek Enlightenment and is credited with laying the foundations of modern Greek literature. His activities paved the way for the Greek War of Independence whilst his influence on the modern Greek language and culture has been compared to that of Dante on Italian and Martin Luther on German. His main exhortation to the Greeks during their War of Independence was the need for education.
