Greek Music with a classic twist
A concert featuring some of the best string players in Sydney, together with some of the best musicians from the Greek music scene. The result is a ten-piece ensemble which will leave audiences spellbound. The program offers a selection of Greek songs, both classic and contemporary, all arranged by George Doukas.

The Hellenes founded hundreds of colonies and territories on the Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts and in Asia. Some of these only became extinct in the last century, while others survive to this day, with many of their inhabitants speaking dialects of Greek and maintaining differing aspects of Hellenic culture. We must never forget how the Hellenes were able to reach and in many cases directly rule vast territories far beyond the Greek heartland.
This lecture will provide an overview of the key communities in Magna Graecia, Spain, Corsica, Syria, Turkey, Pontus, Romania, Bulgaria.
The lecture will be presented by Costa Vertzayias and Billy Cotsis.

Music and words from Greek and Arabic lands
Synopsis: The Greek and Arabic worlds have been in contact for millennia on the shores of the Mediterranean and neighbouring lands, each creating multiple regional cultures.
This event presents a selection of songs and poetry which illustrate this diversity in unity, unity in diversity, featuring the Andalus Arabic Choir and orchestra directed by Ghada Daher-Elmowy, and songs from many parts of the Greek world performed by Marina Thiveos.
